Mental health and wellbeing

The associated workplan is overseen by the Mental Health Committee.  There has been significant emotional impact for blind and partially sighted people post lockdown with a sense of an unfamiliar world.   The aim of this workstream is to roll out mental health screening across the sector including training to ensure effectiveness, drawing the evidence base together to support influencing the NHS.

Visionary members and partners are invited to engage with the Mental health and well-being workstream at the Visionary Annual Conference 2021.

On Friday 26 November,  Amanda Hawkins, Chair of the Mental Health Committee  joined by Mhairi Thurston, Senior Lecturer in Counselling and Researcher from Abertay University introduced an exciting project that the committee are working on to develop training for all frontline staff to enable them to screen for mental health.

Visionary Conference delegates explored some of the issues colleagues across the sector find in opening conversations about mental health. Feedback collected will be fed into the project and help us build the best training: addressing all fear and anxiety about talking about mental health and enable us to build a fit for purpose training program.
