Here is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of young people living with Usher syndrome – a genetic cause of progressive vision and hearing loss.
Professionals from within the sector are invited to join our team of volunteers, to help us deliver a memorable camp whilst gaining invaluable insight into the experiences of those living with progressive dual sensory loss.
Usher Kids UK, in partnership with Deafblind UK, is hosting the second summer camp from 22-28 July 2023 in Essex, for young people aged 11-25 years living with Usher syndrome. This is a 6 day residential event taking place at Fairplay House.
We are recruiting volunteers from different professional backgrounds across education / health / support sectors, to help deliver the camp and enable the young people to gain maximum benefit from this life-changing experience. Training will be provided to ensure all volunteers have the knowledge, skills and confidence to undertake their roles, so that they help our campers and mentors foster confidence, friendships and self-advocacy skills which last a lifetime. All accommodation and food costs are covered for volunteers.
Feedback from 2022 volunteers demonstrates the impact this experience had on them: “I loved every minute”, “The experience, people and memories made my summer”, “The organisation and communication with volunteers was great. I also loved witnessing the connections and growth; the laughter and smiles!”.
