Hours: 35 hours per week
Salary: £18,145 per annum
Contract: Permanent - Full time (Will consider job share if 2 suitable applicants apply)

Experience / attributes

Essential

  • Above all, you must be passionate and motivated about providing services to enrich the lives of people with a visual impairment.
  • Resourceful and resilient with a caring nature
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Experience in working with a variety of people with different abilities
  • Ability to build and maintain good relationships with colleagues, volunteers and clients
  • Willing to drive to different locations on a regular basis
  • Good administrative and computer skills
  • A positive “can do” attitude
  • Flexible in terms of when and where you work

Advantageous but all relevant skills can be taught.

  • Safeguarding knowledge
  • Risk Assessment and First Aid qualifications
  • Experience working with Charity Log
  • Experience working with or supporting people with sight loss
  • Health and social care qualifications

Job Purpose

Social Clubs – You will be tasked with supporting volunteers running our existing clubs (and sharing activities and speaker information between club leaders) and to develop new, vibrant clubs to increase our provision in the north of the county. In addition to setting up traditional social clubs perhaps you will look to launch a weekend walking group? Perhaps you will run an evening club for people of working age? You will have exciting ideas and the ability to research and launch new services, supported by colleagues and volunteers.

You will help to run our monthly vision support centres in Bedworth, Atherstone and Coleshill and provide cover for all other centres on an ad hoc basis. You will also support colleagues in producing an interesting and varied programme of speakers and activities for all centres.

Befriending Service – working closely with a colleague based in South Warwickshire you will be the main point of contact for clients and volunteers in North Warwickshire (Rugby and upwards).
You will match volunteers to clients for our telephone befriending. For our home visiting service, you will travel to risk assess client’s homes before allocating a volunteer.

To be responsible for following health and safety best practice for Warwickshire Vision Support’s activities in your area and attend networking opportunities where possible to spread awareness of the charity.

To undertake all other reasonable duties as required

This post is exempt from the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act1974. A Disclosure and Barring Service will be required prior to appointment

As a small charity, you will also be expected to cover other Community Service activities at various locations, as required. This will be to cover colleague sickness and holidays.

Ability to commute/relocate:

  • North Warwickshire: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (preferred)
