Our mission is to support people to overcome their day-to-day challenges, achieve their potential and lead an independent life. Established in 1922, we are a countywide charity based in Fetcham, near Leatherhead.

Sight for Surrey is pleased to announce exciting opportunities for sessional Communicator Guides and Visual Impairment Support Workers. These workers work direct with people with a combined sight and hearing loss or visual impairment. You will be working on a one to one basis supporting people to live as independent lives as possible, accessing the community (no personal care duties) usually in people’s homes, community, office, health settings e.g. hospitals, GP surgeries.

We provide services across Surrey – however we would expect you to be working local to you. The hours are flexible. A Disclosure and Barring Service will be required which we can arrange. In view of our Social Care activities, our aim is to have a fully vaccinated workforce, and we encourage and support our workers to protect themselves with available vaccinations.

A successful candidate will have:

  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Listening skills
  • Trustworthy and confidential
  • Organisational abilities
  • Deaf aware / Combined Sight & Hearing Loss aware – not essential
  • British Sign Language – not essential

They will need to be physically able to cope with wheelchair pushing and supporting older people, willing to work flexibly and have the ability to travel extensively throughout Surrey
