Help people find their way through the emotional impact of sight loss

Losing your sight can affect much more than what you can see. It can change your confidence, relationships, independence and how you feel about the future. Having someone who listens can make a real difference.

At Vision Support, we’re looking for a qualified counsellor to offer that space – helping people affected by sight loss explore difficult feelings, adjust to change and work towards what matters to them.

For 150 years, Vision Support has supported people living with sight loss. Join us as we continue that work across North East Wales, Cheshire and Halton.

A role with space to focus on counselling

We want you to have the time to build effective therapeutic relationships and give clients your full attention.

You’ll manage your own counselling caseload, with time within your contracted hours for preparation, notes, clinical supervision and reflection. Your workload will be agreed and regularly reviewed with your manager to support safe, sustainable practice.

You don’t need to have worked with people affected by sight loss before. We welcome relevant experience from other counselling settings and will provide vision impairment awareness training to help you adapt your existing skills.

What you’ll bring

You’ll be a qualified, professionally registered counsellor who offers warmth, sound judgement and a respectful, non-judgemental approach. You’ll be comfortable working independently while recognising the value of supervision and support from colleagues.

Above all, you’ll respect each person’s experience and choices, helping them explore their own goals without making assumptions about life with sight loss.

What we offer

  • 26 days’ annual leave plus bank holidays, increasing to 32 days after five years’ service, pro rata for part-time staff.
  • Flexible working arrangements on request.
  • A pension scheme, subject to eligibility.
  • An Employee Assistance Programme with access to 24/7 counselling.
  • A full induction, vision impairment awareness training and opportunities for professional development.
  • The opportunity to provide meaningful support to people affected by sight loss.

Vision Support welcomes applications from all sectors of the community. We will consider reasonable adjustments, including support available through Access to Work. For adjustments to the application or interview process, contact Kate Hurst at khurst@visionsupport.org.uk.

Appointment is subject to satisfactory references and an appropriate DBS check. Contact with guide dogs may be necessary. Vision Support is unable to offer visa sponsorship.

We reserve the right to close this vacancy early if a suitable candidate is found.
