Thomas Pocklington Trust (TPT) and RNIB are collaborating with charities in the sight loss sector to create new opportunities for blind and partially sighted people to find employment through the Get Set Progress Internship programme. This post has a Genuine Occupational Requirement that the successful applicant be a person who is blind or partially sighted, in line with The Equality Act 2010. The apprenticeship is open to applicants of any age. MyVision Oxfordshire is delighted to be offering an internship as part of the Get Set Progress scheme.

MyVision Oxfordshire offers free information, advice, and support to blind and visually impaired adults and children in Oxfordshire.

  • Application form writing
  • Interview techniques

Job description

Role: Communications Apprentice

Department: Fundraising

Reporting to: Joanna Waton, Fundraising Manager

Location: Office based (Bradbury Lodge,

Gordon Woodward Way, Oxford, OX1 4XL) with some home working.

Salary: £11.44 per hour based on the UK Living Wage. (Annually this is £20,821)

Contract type: Fixed Term 18 months, full time 35 hours per week

Annual Leave: 25 days per 12 months, plus bank holidays

Job Specification Information

Job purpose: Overview of the role:
The role will comprise of an 18month Apprenticeship, where you will gain a Level 3 Content Creator qualification (equivalent of 2 A-levels). During the first 9 months you will also join the Internship programme with Thomas Pocklington Trust.

The job purpose is to showcase the work of MyVision Oxfordshire and to communicate the stories of change in people’s lives through a variety of channels including our print newsletter, website, and social media channels.

Key areas of responsibility:

Social Media

  • Manage and provide engaging content for all our social media platforms
  • Seek out new social media opportunities for MyVision to engage with new audiences

Website

  • Manage and update our website, keeping it fresh and relevant
  • Provide regular updates via our news and blog pages
  • Ensure calendars are kept up to date
  • Provide regular e-news bulletins and increase engagement

Print Communications

  • Manage our quarterly newsletter
  • Provide interesting and meaningful content

Fundraising

  • Support the fundraising team with the annual appeal and our annual raffle draw
  • Support our digital fundraising through our website, JustGiving and other digital platforms
  • Support our community fundraising, ensuring events and campaigns are widely advertised

Other duties:

  • Attend all meetings associated with your internship with Thomas Pocklington
  • Complete all requirements associated with the Level 3 Content Creator apprenticeship
  • Attend and contribute to team meetings.
  • Attend relevant training and networking events.
  • Be an ambassador for MyVision and help us to reach out, grow and continue to support visually impaired people across Oxfordshire.
  • Other reasonable duties set out by your line manager and the Chief Executive.
  • There may, on occasion, be a need to work outside normal hours e.g. weekends and evenings

Personal Specification –

This post has a Genuine Occupational Requirement that the successful applicant be a person who is blind or partially sighted, in line with The Equality Act 2010. The apprenticeship is open to applicants of any age over 16.

  2. High level of organisation
  3. A passion for communicating

  5. Empathy and willingness to understand different people’s needs
  6. The ability to communicate with staff, volunteers, clients, and supporters of MyVision

Essential Criteria:

  1. Lived experience of visual impairment
  2. High level of literacy and IT skills
  3. Knowledge of accessibility relating to web content and social media.

Desirable Criteria:

  1. Experience in digital communications.
  2. Experience of web content management systems (CMS) for example WordPress.
  3. Experience of promoting activities and events through digital and print communications
  4. Knowledge of using Canva, InDesign and or other digital media platforms.
