Vision Rehabilitation Training Ltd has been at the forefront of Vision Rehabilitation Specialist education for over two decades.

Our team combines extensive, academic, rehabilitation practice and workforce development experience within the visual impairment sector, including involvement in university-level training, apprenticeship design and service development.

Recently recognised a ‘Good’ provider by Ofsted, we work closely with employers, practitioners and sector leaders to ensure training reflects the realities of modern rehabilitation practice, grounded in professional standards, person-centred values and safe, effective delivery in complex environments.

The demand for skilled Vision Rehabilitation Specialists has never been greater. Services are under pressure, caseloads are complex, and employers need practitioners who can confidently translate theory into effective, person-centred practice. Our Vision Rehabilitation Specialist Apprenticeship training programme has been designed to meet this challenge head-on.

Delivered over 24 months, the apprenticeship provides a structured yet flexible route into professional practice. It is built around the nationally recognised Vision Rehabilitation Specialist standard (ST0431) and ensures apprentices develop the full range of knowledge, skills and behaviours required for effective rehabilitation work.

A Programme Built Around Real Practice

Apprentices develop competence across core areas including functional vision assessment, eye conditions, low vision, orientation and mobility, independent living skills, communication, and reflective practice. Learning is closely integrated with day-to-day work, allowing apprentices to apply new skills directly within their service setting.

The programme, uses a blended delivery model, combining online learning, live virtual teaching and focused face-to-face practical training in London. This approach maximises hands-on learning while avoiding prolonged periods away from the workplace.

Flexible, Supportive, Employer-Focused

A distinctive feature of the programme is its multiple-mentorship model, which spreads supervisory input and reduces pressure on individual managers. Employers are supported through clear training plans, detailed manager briefings, and regular progress updates.

For learners, weekly guided activities, access to a bespoke online learning platform, and experienced practitioner-trainers create a supportive environment that builds confidence and professional identity over time.

A Sustainable Workforce Solution

This apprenticeship is not just a qualification — it is a workforce development strategy. It supports recruitment, retention and progression, while ensuring services can meet current and future demand with skilled, reflective practitioners.
