Sight Loss Councils are excited to announce the launch of Surrey Sight Loss Council (SLC) this summer – and we’re now recruiting volunteers to help shape services for blind and partially sighted people across the county.

Sight Loss Councils, funded by Thomas Pocklington Trust, are groups of blind and partially sighted people who use their lived experience to influence positive change. With established SLCs already making an impact in Sussex and Hampshire, Surrey is the next step in strengthening the South East network.

Mary, Leanne, Vicky, and Harry, Sight Loss Council volunteers, sit around a table at the annual SLC Conference taking part in a roundtable discussion, while other volunteers are seated at nearby tables in the background doing the same.

Why join Surrey Sight Loss Council?

As a volunteer, you’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Work with local service providers and policymakers to improve accessibility
  • Share your experiences and ideas with other blind and partially sighted volunteers
  • Influence real change in areas such as transport, health, retail, arts and culture, and the built environment

No previous experience is needed – just personal experience of sight loss and a passion for making a difference.

If you live in Surrey and want to help improve services for blind and partially sighted people – locally and nationally – this could be the perfect volunteering opportunity.
