Sight Loss Charity Celebrates 170th Anniversary
Cornish sight loss charity, iSightCornwall, has celebrated its 170th anniversary with a special event for members and volunteers.
Over 120 people joined the celebrations alongside staff and trustees to mark this incredible milestone.

A room full of people sitting at round tables with tea cups and saucers on the tables.
Founded in 1856 to help miners who had lost their sight in blasting accidents, the charity has been a lifeline for people in the county with sight loss ever since. Originally called The Society for the Itinerant Teaching of the Blind in the County of Cornwall to Read the Sacred Scriptures and to Write it was Cornwall’s first organised attempt to support people with sight loss more than a decade before the creation of the National Institute for the Blind, known today as the RNIB.
Over the years, the name has evolved and so too have the services that the charity provides but its mission has remained very much the same: helping people with sight loss to live independently, stay connected and thrive within their communities.
Carole Theobald, chief executive of iSightCornwall“I feel incredibly proud that 170 years after iSightCornwall began, the spirit of the charity has not changed. Celebrating such a remarkable milestone with members and volunteers was a lovely reminder of the people, friendships and shared commitment that have shaped iSightCornwall over so many years.”
