The Rodney Powell Awards 2026 are back, celebrating the outstanding impact made by our Thomas Pocklington Trust and Sight Loss Council volunteers.

AleksHaving been honoured with this award myself last year, I can honestly say it gave me a huge boost in self-confidence and made me realise that my actions really can make a difference! Volunteering is rewarding, but quite often you’re unsure of the true impact of your help or how it fits into the bigger picture.
Last year, I went through a bit of an existential crisis, constantly tangled in thoughts of not being good enough or underachieving. Then, out of the blue, I received an email saying I had won the award. It felt almost unbelievable, but when I collected the stunning trophy and received praise from so many TPT colleagues, I started to reflect on everything I had done during that period.
Recognition truly shifts your perspective — in my case, it opened my eyes to the fact that every little effort really does help.
Who knows? Maybe your nomination could make someone’s day and completely change how they see themselves.
The Rodney Powell Awards recognise the outstanding contributions of volunteers at the Thomas Pocklington Trust (TPT) and highlight the impact of their work on blind and partially sighted people.
