North-east Scottish charity backs campaign to make Aberdeen a Living Wage city

A north-east Scottish charity has backed a campaign to double the number of accredited real Living Wage employers in Aberdeen.

North East Sensory Services gave its support to the action plan launched by the Aberdeen Living Wage Group. The group, led by Scottish Enterprise on behalf of Community Planning Aberdeen, is aiming to make Aberdeen a “Living Wage city”. There are over 70 accredited Living Wage employers in Aberdeen. The campaign is seeking to double this figure in the next three years.

NESS, which has offices in Aberdeen, Dundee and Elgin, became an accredited Living Wage employer in 2016 and pays all staff above the current rate of £10.90 per hour. The charity also seeks to ensure those it engages with, such as contractors, are also Living Wage employers.

The UK rate is calculated annually by the Resolution Foundation and overseen by the Living Wage Commission, based on the best available evidence about living standards.

NESS supports thousands of people with visual and hearing impairments in Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Moray, Dundee and Angus.
