Sight Support Hull and East Yorkshire proudly announces its 160th anniversary in 2024. Since its inception in 1864, the charity has been at the forefront of providing invaluable support and services to the visually impaired community in Hull and East Yorkshire.

Over the past century and a half, Sight Support has played a pivotal role in empowering individuals with visual impairments to lead fulfilling and independent lives. The charity’s unwavering commitment to its mission has made a lasting impact on the local community, fostering inclusivity and accessibility for those facing the challenges of sight loss.

In celebration of this significant milestone, the charity will be hosting ‘Take Me to the Movies’, a concert of film music through the decades with performances from the Hull Philharmonic Orchestra and local X Factor contestant Samantha Atkinson in the wonderful surroundings of Hull Minster on Friday 7th June. Doors open 6.15pm and concert starts 7pm.

Tickets are £16 and are available by calling Sight Support on 01482 342297 or emailing the fundraising team. Tickets are also available online – 160th Anniversary Concert – Eventbrite.

Sight Support Chief Executive Alison Stannard expressed gratitude for the community’s support over the years, stating,

“As we celebrate our 160th anniversary, we reflect on the incredible journey that the charity has undertaken. We are immensely proud of the positive impact we’ve had on the lives of blind and partially sighted people. This anniversary is not only a celebration of our past but also a testament to the resilience and strength of the visually impaired individuals we serve.”
