A new approach to rehab apprenticeships: how Vision and Hearing Support Gateshead made this work

14 March 2023, 10am to 11am (Please note: Time changed from 9am to 10am)

Need more rehab workers in your organisation? Are you struggling to recruit?

The recent development of the Rehabilitation Worker (Visual Impairment) Apprenticeship standard has offered a lifeline to the profession and an opportunity to improve the availability of rehabilitative interventions to people with a visual impairment. Come to this session to hear how Vision and Hearing Support have embarked on Apprenticeship training programme  in their local area and how this could benefit your organisation.

Vision Rehabilitation Training Ltd is a social business with staff that have a long history of training Rehabilitation Workers. They have developed a relevant Apprenticeship training programme that uses innovative delivery methods to reduce cost and time away from the workplace. The aim is to train current professionals and attract new people into the profession that are committed to a local community but have previously been unable to train due to extended periods of time away from the workplace and home.

The approach to training enables the delivery of national training programmes – for those apprentices able to travel, and local programmes for organisations that are able to train a number of apprentices.

Rehab: Supporting Clients with their mental health – Discover Wellbeing

20 April 2023, 10am to 11am (Please note: Date and time changed from 9 May 2023, 9am to 10am)

Are you a rehab worker or manager and struggle to support your clients mental health needs?

Retina UK recently launched Discover Wellbeing, to help those living with sight loss develop an awareness of emotional wellbeing and practical skills to adapt to life’s ups and downs. The Discover Wellbeing tool is free to use and Denise Rawden of Retina UK will talk about how this tool could be applied to your rehab interventions and improve outcomes for your clients.

The course has been shaped by the lived experiences of people affected by sight loss and has been tested for accessibility.
