Introducing ‘VI Lives’ – Looking at things differently
Tuesday 30 November 2021
2:00 pm to 3:30pm
Zoom
VI Lives is a major new study exploring the lived experience of VI people, undertaken in collaboration between RNIB, Guide Dogs and Thomas Pocklington Trust (TPT).
While historically research has tended to focus on the circumstances of VI people (e.g. demographics or sight loss condition), this new study combines qualitative and quantitative insights to build a rich and authentic understanding of the lived experience. It uncovers people’s emotional needs and explores the impact of sight loss on mental wellbeing.
These insights are designed to help the sector tailor its services to meet the diverse needs of its customers.
At the session Alex Pepper, TPT; Helen Whiteside, Guide Dogs; and Hilary Ingleton, RNIB will talk participants through the background, objectives, methodology, and the key insights and subsequent recommendations that have come out of the research.
The session is aimed at senior stakeholders, as well as campaigning and fundraising leads from local and regional organisations. Hilary Ingleton, RNIB said “one of the objectives of this piece of work was to use the insights to uncover gaps in support for VI people. The three commissioning charities are using the insights from VI Lives to help shape our strategies so that we can support our customers better and our hope is it will help others in the sector to do the same”.
