Designing and disseminating a collaborative Children’s Low Vision Framework
Thursday 18 July 2024
11:45 am to 12:30pm
Zoom
The session led by RNIB’s Head of Optometry, Low Vision and Eye Health, Dr Louise Gow and Optometry and Low Vision Engagement Manager, Preeti Singla, gives Visionary members the opportunity to input into designing a collaborative low vision service framework aimed at children.
It is well established that low vision services are currently fragmented and inconsistent and there is a recognised need for more joined up commissioning. RNIB recently launched the cross-sector collaborative Adult Low Vision Service Quality Framework in February of this year which is an audit tool designed to help improve the quality of care provided by existing low vision services as well as helping in the implementation in the commissioning of new services. This framework is now being used by services across the UK and details can be found on the RNIB website – Resources and information for low vision professionals and commissioners | RNIB.
The differences between adult and children’s low vision services are significant and RNIB are now embarking on an extensive stakeholder engagement activity incorporating the essential views of service providers, service users and professional bodies, to develop a similar framework for children’s services. The input of Visionary members, as experts within the low vision arena and key drivers within the sector, is invaluable. Please join us for this introductory session to find out more about the plans for the children’s framework and how you can get involved.
