Accessible Food Labelling

Sight Scotland logo
Have your say on braille and accessible food labelling.

A group of nine people stand smiling together in the bright, open foyer of the Mitchell Library, with bookshelves on either side and a mezzanine balcony behind them. To the left is a tall purple and pink pull-up banner reading “Braille Food Labelling Campaign” with the slogan “Same Supermarket. Same Shelf. Same Right to Know.” It shows illustrations of a juice carton, a milk carton and a jam jar, each marked with braille dots, alongside a scannable code, the web address for the campaign page, and the logos of Oban and District Access Panel, Disability Equality Scotland, Sight Scotland and Sight Scotland Veterans. The group is a mix of ages, dressed casually, with several people wearing lanyards.
The Braille Food Labelling Campaign is asking blind and partially sighted people across the UK about their experiences of food packaging.
Medicines have carried braille for years. The campaign wants the product name in braille on food too, alongside a QR code or NaviLens for the full information.
The findings will go to Food Standards Scotland and DEFRA as evidence for change.
The survey takes around ten minutes and can be completed online, by phone, by email or by post. Open the online Braille Food Labelling Survey (opens online form) or email policy@sightscotland.org.uk to receive the survey in accessible format of your choice.
Survey closes 31 October 2026.
