Visionary is delighted to announce the launch of the first episode of our podcast series “A Space of Our Own”, an exciting new initiative that provides a safe and welcoming space for honest conversations and shared experiences of everyday life with sight loss.

Our inaugural episode explores the theme of “Disclosure”, the deeply personal decision of whether, when and how to share one’s visual impairment with others. Through an open and thoughtful conversation, Andy Smith, Service Delivery Manager at MyVision Oxfordshire and part of the “A Space of Our Own” project team, Hannah-Elisbeth Dix from Nystagmus Network and Fern Lulham, Blind Broadcaster, Speaker and Psychotherapist reflect on the emotional realities of disclosure, the barriers people can face and the importance of being seen, heard and understood.

This podcast reminds us that disclosure is never a simple decision. They highlight the courage it can take to speak openly about lived experience and the importance of creating environments where everyone feels safe, respected, and accepted for who they are.

"When we see who we are more clearly and make room for how we feel, we start to create 'a space of our own'."

Fern Lulham

"At Visionary, we believe that when people feel able to share their lived experiences openly, it helps create greater understanding and inclusion. A Space of Our Own is about creating a space where people with sight loss can tell their stories in their own words, and I'm proud that our first episode explores the deeply personal topic of disclosure.

I'm so grateful to Fight for Sight for the funding that has made this podcast possible. Their ongoing confidence in Visionary is helping us bring these important conversations to more people, and I hope this first episode encourages others to listen, share and help build a more understanding and inclusive society."

Fiona Sandford, Chief Executive, Visionary

We invite everyone, individuals, organisations, professionals, allies and community groups, to listen to this first episode and help us share it far and wide. Together, we can ensure these important conversations reach more people.

Every listen, every conversation and every share makes a difference. Help us share this episode with the world!

This Visionary project “A Space of Our Own” is in partnership with MyVision Oxfordshire and Vision Support and is possible thanks to Fight for Sight and their generous support.
