People across Forth Valley who are living with sight-loss tested out the latest assistive technology at a local sensory charity, based in Camelon.
Forth Valley Sensory Centre (FVSC), which supports more than 20,000 people every year, hosted the Vision Zone exhibition at their centre in Camelon. The event was facilitated by Optelec, a company providing assistive products for those with sight-loss and brought together a wide range of specialist organisations under one roof.
The event showcased the latest products, technologies, and resources aimed at supporting people with visual impairments. Alongside Optelec, providers including Newsline, the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB), Triple Tap Tech, the Macular Society, and Orcam were also available to speak to. Each organisation offered expert demonstrations, advice, and insights to help visitors access essential tools and support.
Thirty people came along to the event. This is the 19th year that Vision Zone has returned to FVSC and they hope to welcome them again in the future.
FVSC has supported people with sensory loss and their families who live in central Scotland, including Stirling and Clackmannanshire, for more than 15 years. It acts as a community hub, offering support, advice, practical help, and social opportunities. The centre has around 20,000 visitors every year and is funded by a mix of statutory funding and donations.

Its overall objective is to help people who have sensory loss to live as independently as possible, through activities, groups, and classes, including access to IT and tech support, cookery classes, visits and excursions, and sign and lip-reading classes. It also offers volunteering opportunities to boost their skills and confidence.
Jacquie Winning, chief executive of FVSC“We were thrilled to welcome Vision Zone back to the centre for another fantastic event. Events like this are vital to our centre users to see the support and technology that is available to them. The overwhelmingly positive feedback we received from attendees shows how much of a difference these technologies, and the organisations behind them, can make in our centre users everyday life. We hope to welcome VisionZone back in the future for another successful event.”
