British Blind Sport is currently seeking applications for an Independent Director ideally with significant experience in VI sport as an athlete or a coach or have helped develop pathways to participation.

About the Role

To support our work and to help us to demonstrate our commitment to VI sport we are looking for an Independent Director to provide guidance to Board members and staff on blind and partially sighted sport with lived experiences. To be a public ambassador for BBS in the BPS community and wider audience.

Your experience

  • Experience in BPS sport at participation or coaching level.
  • Strong public presence.
  • Actively engaged on social media channels.
  • Ability to explain barriers faced in VI sport to those from a non-sporting background.

Although our Head Office is in Leamington Spa, we understand that the blind and partially sighted community is spread across the UK, and we are keen to reflect that regional diversity on our Board. Blind and partially sighted people are at the heart of all that we do, therefore we would particularly welcome applicants from within the sight loss community.  With virtual meetings and reasonable travelling expenses available, applicants are encouraged regardless of their geographical location.

This is a voluntary role that is unpaid, but you can claim reasonable expenses if required, such as travel to attend meetings in person.

British Blind Sport is an equal opportunities organisation and will not discriminate against applicants on the grounds of gender, gender identity, sexuality, race, or disability.  We are committed to creating an inclusive environment within the workplace and across our delivery programmes and actively encourage applications from diverse backgrounds and perspectives across underrepresented communities such as Disabled, Ethically Diverse Communities and LGBTQIA+ applicants.

If you think you can help us to empower the blind and partially sighted community, provide strategic support to our delivery programmes and can commit to a three-year term of office, please apply with your CV and Covering Letter detailing your relevant experience and suitability for the position to Sarah Baker, Governance Officer – sarah@britishblindsport.org.uk

Interviews will be conducted via Zoom with our Board Nominations Subcommittee.
