BBS Trustee Opportunity: Independent Director Commercial

British Blind Sport is currently seeking applications for an Independent Non‐Executive Director with significant Commercial experience in a sports-related or charity-related field.

About the Role

The Non‐Executive Director role we are currently looking to add to our Board of Trustees will bring an external perspective to challenge British Blind Sport on its current and future Commercial strategy.  In addition, to provide insight and internally focused advice to the CEO regarding our long-term Commercial requirements and business development needs. This role also will be required to suggest ways to develop and launch new commercial opportunities in line with British Blind Sport’s purpose and values. Successful candidates will have the ability to think strategically, demonstrate clear analytical intellect and to add significant value to evidence‐based decision making. They will also be effective communicators, able to liaise with and influence a wide range of stakeholders.

Your experience

  • You will bring Senior Executive and/or Board level experience obtained through working in a Commercial field within an organisation. Knowledge and experience of organisations linked to the charity or sporting sector would be advantageous.
  • A strong understanding and experience of membership organisations, as well as obtaining and driving external partnership income/sponsorship will be essential.
  • You will also have strong commercial acumen and a variety of commercial contacts.

Although our Head Office is in Leamington Spa, we understand that the blind and partially sighted community is spread across the UK, and we are keen to reflect that regional diversity on our Board. Blind and partially sighted people are at the heart of all that we do, therefore we would particularly welcome applicants from within the sight loss community.  With virtual meetings and reasonable travelling expenses available, applicants are encouraged regardless of their geographical location.

This is a voluntary role that is unpaid, but you can claim reasonable expenses if required, such as travel to attend meetings in person.

British Blind Sport is an equal opportunities organisation and will not discriminate against applicants on the grounds of gender, gender identity, sexuality, race, or disability.  We are committed to creating an inclusive environment within the workplace and across our delivery programmes and actively encourage applications from diverse backgrounds and perspectives across underrepresented communities such as Disabled, Ethically Diverse Communities and LGBTQIA+ applicants.

If you think you can help us to empower the blind and partially sighted community, provide strategic support to our delivery programmes and can commit to a three-year term of office, please apply with your CV and Covering Letter detailed your relevant experience and suitability for the position to Sarah Baker, Governance Office to sarah@britishblindsport.org.uk

Interviews will be conducted via Zoom with our Board Nominations Subcommittee.
