We have recently established a new Content Formats Project to analyse and assess the accessibility of different programme formats on TV. The first stage of this research project is to work closely with end users to determine their needs and expectations, in order to inform this and future research on Audio Description. If this is something that interests you, then we have an exciting opportunity for you.

The RNIB is the leading UK’s sight loss charity helping blind and partially sighted people thrive.

We are looking for someone who is as passionate about making content accessible as we are in the Media and Culture Team. Whether it is TV and films, books, music or video games and the new emerging immersive technologies.

We are a multi-disciplinary team that supports the development and delivery of accessible content by working with various teams across RNIB and external stakeholders including the industry, standardisation and research bodies, and other user organisations.

What will you gain from this placement?

  • Experience in analysing different television formats to assess accessibility provision and needs through exploring television content and working with blind and partially sighted people.
  • Experience creating reports on the findings.
  • Experience in the field of accessibility for television.
  • Experience of working on a research project with subject matter experts.

The role is part of RNIB’s See Work Differently Work placement employment initiative for unemployed blind and partially sighted people to secure that first rung on the career ladder or who are returning to work following a career break.

This role is funded specifically for candidates who experience sight loss, and we are looking forward to receiving your application, if this applies to you.

What we offer:

In exchange we offer a stimulating and supportive working environment and a benefits package including:

  • 26 days holiday per year (plus bank holidays), which increase with service.
  • An excellent pension scheme.
  • Flexible working
  • Staff discount schemes
