We are Sight for Surrey – an ambitious charity offering a lifetime of support to people who are blind or partially sighted, Deaf, deafblind or hard of hearing.  Our mission is to support people to overcome their day-to-day challenges, achieve their potential and lead an independent life.  Established in 1922, a countywide charity based in Fetcham, near Leatherhead.

This is an exciting time to join the team at Sight for Surrey as our services are going from strength to strength.

We are seeking to recruit an Activities Worker to join the Children & Young People’s Team.  The role involves organising and running at least one activity each month that is suitable for children and young people who have vision impairment or multi-sensory impairment aged from 0 – 18 years. Some of our activities include parents and siblings; others are for young people 11 year – 19 years without parents in attendance.

These opportunities aim to enhance the life opportunities of children and young people with a vision impairment or combined sight and hearing loss, giving them the opportunity to make friends, learn about the world in which we live, build confidence and self-esteem.

The successful candidate will have experience of working with children and young people and be imaginative, creative and organised.  Experience of vision impairment or sign language would be an advantage but not essential.  The post holder will need to be flexible working the 12 hours over Mondays, Tuesdays and during weekends when an activity is planned.

For further details of the role please see the job description.  An enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service will be required which SFS will arrange.

We can offer you:

  • A generous annual leave allowance (full time annual leave entitlement is 28 days per annum, plus bank holidays).
  • Investment in your development, with training opportunities available.
  • Access to an Employee Assistance Programme.
  • Pension contributions matched up to 6% using the Pensions Trust.
  • Annual flu vaccinations and an eye test every two years with a contribution towards work related glasses.
  • A growing range of other staff benefits
  • A fun and friendly team
