Guide Dogs is aiming to increase the number of people who are trained in sighted guiding across the UK, to help create a more inclusive society for people with vision impairment.

We recognise that many organisations already have expertise in sighted guiding, however depending on capacity, may wish to signpost enquiries from the general public, organisations or friends and family members of people with sight loss to the following training. Our free, virtual sighted guide training teaches participants how to guide an adult with sight loss, with confidence, skill and empathy. Training options include:

Introduction to Sighted Guide Training

A live, online training with one of Guide Dogs’ experts, for anyone aged 18+ who would like to learn the basics of guiding an adult with sight loss. This is ideal for anyone who works or volunteers with the public.

Friends and Family Sighted Guide Training

A live training either online or in person, specifically for those who want to help a friend or family member with a vision impairment. Attendees aged 12+ (children accompanied by an adult), to learn or refresh their skills on how to guide an adult with sight loss.

People can sign up via our website for one of the free training sessions. Visit the Guide Dogs website.

If your organisation has any questions about this offering, please email Guide Dogs.
