Opening Doors Social & Leisure Project Worker

Contract Type: 1 year fixed term contract (possibility of increasing dependant on funding)

Location: Derby

Hours: 15 hours per week (2 days)

Salary: £10.13/hour - £7,901 per annum (£19,490 pro-rata)

We are happy to consider a secondment from a suitable organisation.

Sight Support Derbyshire has recently been awarded one-year funding to develop and deliver a new service called Opening Doors. The service aims to relieve social isolation and improve the wellbeing of visually impaired people by providing a programme of activities enabling people to come together and access community facilities. We are now looking for a Project Worker with passion, drive and enthusiasm to help us take this exciting new work forward.

The new service will initially help people living in three key locations in Derbyshire; Derby City, Long Eaton and Matlock. The Project Worker will work with visually impaired people to develop a programme of social and leisure activities using local community venues such as cafes and organise visits to places of interest.

Part of the operational team based in Derby and reporting to the Service Manager, you will need to be a ‘self-starter’ and able to work on your own initiative to ensure that services run smoothly and deliver the required outcomes.

At a time of big changes in both voluntary and statutory services we need people who can be flexible, adapt to change and bring a positive attitude to their work.

It is essential that you are a real ‘people person’ and can show compassion and understanding alongside a common sense approach to your work. Whilst it is desirable that you have experience in working with visually impaired people, it is not essential, as full training will be provided.

You will need access to a vehicle for work purposes and be able and willing to travel around the county. (Expenses will be paid in line with our policy).

We can offer you a challenging and rewarding environment, and a competitive salary. This post is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.
